Development of the Bidwell Street site has begun! We need your help with getting the word out and shaping how it might look.
Bidwell Street Salon highlights
We held our first two online Salons in January, hosted in collaboration with South East Salon and featuring local residents and community members. There was lots of buzz, excitement and ideas flowing. If you missed the sessions you can watch the highlights here, and look out for more videos coming to our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
Thanks to all those who shared questions, sent ideas, and made new connections with local groups, teachers, families, designers and more. We’re now going to start to curate the many brilliant ideas and follow up with those who have shown interest in getting involved.
Help us find some amazing people…
We’re on the hunt for people to help us bring the ideas to reality over the coming months.
1. Community coordinator / producer
The Coal Line isn’t short of ambition, ideas or energy, but the core team is short of time to do all the things we’d like to do. We could do even more if we had an extra pair of hands to help bring to life some of these ideas - both online and in real life. We’re looking for a self-starting local who can support the PCL and South East Salon teams, between 5-10 hours a week for the next 3 months. Interested? Find out more and get in touch.
2. Design team
We’ve launched a tender process for a design team to pitch for the Bidwell Street work. If you’re interested or know someone who might be - you can find out more here. The next public Salon will be at the end of April - we’ll be asking for your questions and feedback on the shortlisted design teams ahead of making a decision about who we work with.
Coming up
We’re hoping to run some sessions to generate ideas on Bidwell Street with Joe Richards’ House on Queen’s Road, as well as with local young people and other interest groups. The next public Salon will be at the end of April - we’ll be asking for your questions and feedback on the shortlisted design teams ahead of making a decision about who we work with.
In the meantime here are three things you can do to support the project:
1. Go to Bidwell Street - there are maps of the Coal Line route to mix up your local wanders, and there are stickers there too.
2. Make a video of how you’d like this new public space to look, who you’d like to come here with, and what you’d like to see and do here.
3. Share the video via email or social media, tagging @peckhamcoalline.
We invite your ideas, your participation and future thinking. Stay tuned and thank you for your support.
